Floriane serves easy-flowing songs that tell the stories of love. It's the place to be after midnight.
My earliest memories of my love for radio and music come from childhood. I enjoyed listening to an eclectic mix of sentimental lovers's rock, revival basslines, rare groove, and sexy soul played by my mum, aunts, and uncles. Undoubtedly, this exposure formed my passion for music and radio. Most of my spare time and money was spent between the two - I could not get enough!
At 10-years old, I made my first radio debut for the audience of my bedroom. Unknowingly my cousin's mum overheard me and kindly complimented me. Was I embarrassed or what! In fact, as a teenager, I had discovered the trailblazing, influential presenter and DJ with the dulcet tones, Jenny Francis A.K.A the “Lady of Soul”, whose late-night radio format was a hit on the now defunct Choice FM. Tuning in to her show gave me my aha! moment - to pursue a career in radio. However, it would be years later before I could begin to make that dream a reality.
My first real taste of radio was in 2007 at Life FM, now known as The Beat London, on a Broadcast Assistant Internship. Within a short time, I'd worked my way up to producer and co-presenter on the mid-morning and drive-time shows. From there I ventured across other broadcast outlets, honing my creative skills as I went.
In 2012 I joined the student radio, 'Wired Radio', at Goldsmiths University London - producing and presenting a weekly show titled ‘The Soul of Goldsmiths' for 2 years. This was a new beginning which luckily led to a nomination for 'Best Specialist Music Show!
On completion of my studies, I was given the opportunity to join Colourful. Here, I was quickly encouraged to explore radio from a different perspective - from scriptwriting and voice-overs, to taking on the larger role of narrating Colourful Original audio-bio ‘The Greats’, featuring the GOATs (greatest of all time) in music.
As an avid music fan, nothing compares to first-hand experience of live music performances by favourite artists including Raheem DeVaughn, Teedra Moses, Don E, Terri Walker, Intro, Floetry, Glenn Lewis, Mary J Blige, Janet Jackson, Usher, Yolanda Brown, Eric Benet, and Lalah Hathaway. I've seen them all, and have been privileged enough to meet some of them! I have the photos to prove it and I'm not afraid to share them!
Just before the pandemic hit in 2020, I was offered the further opportunity by Colourful to host late-night show ‘The Saturday Night Storm’. This show has everything I love - me, late-night rendezvous with great music, my fave artists and, crucially, I research, write, and produce it every week!
I must say, it feels so good following in the footsteps of a role model who inspired the teenage me to pursue her passion, aim high, and keep going in pursuit of achieving her dreams!
